The Center provides faculty workshops, consultation and support for the e-Learning Tools listed below, including information on the instructional aspects of their use. We also provide technical support and resources to students who are using our supported e-learning tools. Impatica, Camtasia and Snapz Pro are available for faculty and staff use in our e-Learning Lab. The other tools are available by clicking the link to the associated website and/or request form.

Blackboard Vista is our online course management systems which provide a set of tools that facilitates a web-based learning environment.
Respondus is a software tool which can be used to create quizzes and exams offline in the Windows environment (no Mac compatible version is available) and then be printed or published directly to Blackboard Vista.

The TurnItIn plagiarism prevention system makes it easy to identify students who submit unoriginal work, and also acts as a powerful deterrent to stop plagiarism before it starts.
Impatica for PowerPoint is a stand-alone software program that allows Microsoft PowerPoint presentations to be compressed and played over the Internet without plug-ins, at modem speeds as low as 28.8 kbps. Impatica runs on Windows 98, NT, 2000, Me, or XP and Mac OS X. It extracts the various multimedia elements such as text, graphics, and audio and where possible, converts them into a more efficient format for web delivery.
Though not directly supported at this time, CTL provides general information on collaborative online tools and services such as Wikis, Blogs and RSS aggregators. These tools are all potentially very useful for enhancing online learning, and are generally easily acquired through outside sources for free or at minimal cost. Centra is a virtual classroom environment that enables a student to attend class “live” from the comfort of his/her home and/or workplace - it's the next best thing to being there!
SurveyShare is a web-based tool designed for assessment of teaching and learning, survey research, evaluations, and more. It is available to all UNC Charlotte faculty for your courses and research.

Second Life is three-dimensional, virtual world in which people can interact as avatars (virtual representations of themselves). Individuals can design, build, meet and communicate in Second Life, making it an excellent medium for such things as role-play, creative visualization and experiential learning. Through part of a grant from the UNC-GA, we have access to teaching and learning space in Second Life. Go to our Second Life web page for details, including getting a free account.
Camtasia Studio can be used for real-time recording, editing and publishing video presentations which can be used for training, demonstration, tutorials, and many other uses. It can also record activity from applications, websites, or streaming videos. You can record selections of the application instead of recording the entire process. Your selection can even be edited, spliced and merged with video and audio files into a professional video.

Snapz Pro X is a screen capture application for the Macintosh created by Ambrosia Software, Inc. With Snapz Pro you can capture all or a portion of the computer screen, specific objects like windows, menus, and dialog boxes, or a series of actions as a QuickTime movie. You can edit the image in Snapz Pro X using the Fatbits tool or in your preferred image/movie editing application. Snapz Pro X is available for purchase in different configurations from Ambrosia Software at http://www.ambrosiasw.com/news/. Requirements: Mac OS X.
