49er Express: Calendar

What is the Calendar?

The Calendar feature allows you and your students to access and manage your course schedule from any where you can access the web. Since your calendar has been integrated with your course information, a course calendar has automatically been created for any class you will be teaching during the semester. These calendars can contain class times, exam times, and other scheduling information pertaining to your classes. When you update your calendar your students’ calendar will also be updated. You can also have your calendar send e-mail before a scheduled event. That way, you and your students’ will get a convenient reminder of the event.

With the calendar you can create or change events such as tests, meetings, appointments, birthdays, or any item with an associated time and date. You can create tasks such as to-do items and set a timed deadline for completion of these tasks. You can set reminders and notifications for events and tasks. You can also let others view your calendar and add events to your calendar. In order for others to view your calendar or add events you must know their user name. When you first open your calendar, you will automatically have a personal calendar displayed as your main view.

Viewing your Calendar Information

When you first click the Calendar you see the most commonly used scheduling information events and tasks for the day; and look at the week ahead.

You can also look at your calendar information in a different display by clicking one of the links next to the word “overview.” These can be thought of as calendar views.

  • The Day View gives a detailed view of a single day in an hourly format.
  • The Week view shows your week along a horizontal grid. By default, the week always begins on the Sunday of the current week. You can change this default from the Options tab.
  • The Month view gives a quick view of the entire month. When you click the Month view, the current month is highlighted.
  • The Year view gives a quick view of the entire year at a glance.
  • The Comparison view shows several calendar week views next to one another. (Note: This feature is only useful if you are viewing a calendar group. Calendar group is not enabled in 49er Express).
  • Events are displayed in the columns beneath the corresponding days.
  • Tasks are displayed in the columns beneath the corresponding days.

From the View tab or within a different view you can change the day by clicking the left and right arrows near the date at the top left. Use the left arrow to go backward a day or the right arrow to go forward a day. To go backward or forward one month, click the left or right arrows next to the mini calendar in the top right.
