Center for Teaching and Learning holds regular workshops during the fall and spring semesters, and we are open year-round for individual consultations on any of our workshop topics. We can also arrange a special workshop for a department or group upon request.

To schedule a workshop of your choice for your department or group, please email ctl@uncc.edu. Individual instruction on any of these elearning topics may be requested by contacting Help Center at 7-3100, Option 1 and asking for a CTL representative.
Unless special arrangements have been made with your department, the majority of the workshops are held in the CTL Technology Lab, Atkins 146.
Experience the collaborative features of this live, highly interactive virtual classroom and meeting environment in this one-hour online demonstration. In Centra you can present and discuss learning materials with participants in a synchronous online environment. You’ll also have access to interactive whiteboards, real-time application sharing, and breakout rooms for small group discussion. [NOTE: You will need access to the Internet to attend this session. Second Life is a virtual world that in many ways mimics real life. Individuals are able to create their own “Avatar” (virtual character) which is able to move around and communicate with others. This session will introduce you to the world of Second Life and demonstrate some ways instructors are using it for innovative teaching and learning. You’ll also learn how to create a free account via the Second Life website.

Podcasts are Web-hosted audio (or video files) that users can listen to when and where they want. What role might they have in your course? In this workshop, you will learn how to find, download and subscribe to podcasts. You will also see how professors are using this technology in their classrooms and identify the resources you will need if you want to create your own podcasts.

Have you ever been at your computer, looking at something fascinating that you would love to share with students, but didn’t know how? There are various tools—Captivate, Camtasia, and others—which can be used to capture what’s on your screen and turn it into something students can access and learn from. Come see which tools are right for which tasks, and learn best practices for using different types of content.

In this session, attendees will examine how popular instructional technologies such as blogs, wikis, and social software can enhance interaction between instructor, students, and course content - thereby increasing active participation, enhancing communication and collaboration, providing opportunities for active feedback, and making learning more engaging.

This workshop will look at common issues that have been known to cause difficulties for people with disabilities using the web and how thinking accessibly can help others you might not have considered. It will discuss what methods and/or free tools are available to assist in developing more accessible web pages. It will also briefly look at things to consider when designing courses within UNC Charlotte's course management system (Blackboard Vista).

Respondus is a powerful software application that greatly simplifies question databank creation for Blackboard’s quiz, survey, and self-test tools. Participants will learn how to create or import quiz questions in Respondus, and upload them into Blackboard Vista.

Clickers, or personal response systems, have grown in popularity for engaging students in the classroom, whether in large classes or small. This workshop will show you some best practices and practical tips for what you and your students can accomplish using the Interwrite Personal Response System.

Participants will be presented with vital information on scanning and digitizing images for use in print and the World Wide Web. Participants will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop Elements. Provides an overview of the various ways that multimedia can be used to enhance web courses and presentations with sounds, images and video. The basic format of the workshop will be demonstrations and discussion of the uses of various imaging, audio, video, animation, and presentation tools.
