Blackboard Vista, our web-based course management system, offers a variety of online course delivery tools such as syllabi, threaded discussion, and interactive course content in a secure setting. In our workshops you can learn about selecting features of Blackboard Vista that will help enhance your instruction, creating and adding course materials, communicating online with your students, course and file management, grading, assignments and quizzing.

To schedule a workshop of your choice for your department or group, please email ctl@uncc.edu. Individual instruction on any of these Blackboard Vista topics may be requested by contacting Help Center at 7-3100, Option 1 and asking for a Blackboard Vista consultation.

Blackboard Vista is UNC Charlotte’s supported learning management system, which can be used to supplement instruction or even teach a fully online course. Through hands-on tasks, faculty will create a basic Blackboard Vista course including a Syllabus, Learning Module and Web Links.

Through hands-on activities, this workshop will introduce faculty to synchronous and asynchronous communication options in Blackboard Vista. Participants will explore ways to incorporate Blackboard Vista’s various communication tools into the course, to increase communication between students and the instructor.

The Assessments Tool in Blackboard Vista can be used for quizzes, surveys and more. In this workshop participants will learn about the nine types of questions in Blackboard Vista, how to create a question database and quiz, and how to release the quiz to students. Finally, participants will grade the quiz and see how to view grades.

In this workshop, you’ll use Group Manager to easily create and manage class groups, and to set up private group discussion boards and chat rooms. You’ll also learn to use the Assignment Manager to manage, review, grade, and publish submitted assignments.

Blackboard Vista offers powerful tools for organizing and presenting course material to your students. In this workshop you will explore the options for presenting content in your course. First, you will learn how to work with individual files and folders. Then, you will learn to build Learning Modules which allow you to organize content and activities in structured learning paths for students.

Would you like to make grades available to students online? The Blackboard Vista Grade Book not only allows students access to their course grades, but it can also be integrated with Microsoft Excel to provide a powerful grade book solution.

How do we ensure that our online courses are high-quality learning experiences? This workshop will show you how to assess an online course using the rubric developed by the nationally known, research based Quality Matters (QM) project. By comparing specific examples from existing courses, you will have a chance to determine how well they meet QM’s standards of excellence, helping you generate ideas for developing or refining your own online content.

In this advanced workshop, faculty will see how they can take advantage of Blackboard Vista’s strengths including “smart design” and structured Learning Modules. Attendees will discuss tool usage as it applies to “The Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education.” Participants will learn about course evaluation as applied to the course design process, and will look at optimizing course design to maximize students’ navigation comprehension.

If you exported your course from an old WebCT CE course, in this session you can migrate your WebCT Campus Edition course content into Blackboard Vista using the Migration Tool. An Instructional Technology Consultant will be available to work with you ensuring that you are following the proper procedures and migration steps. NOTE: You will need to have already submitted either a Blackboard Vista Activation request or Development section request (and have received confirmation that your section was created) prior to taking this workshop.
